Unjanee Wells wins Miss Michigan Teen USA 2016

Unjanee Wells has been chosen as Miss Michigan Teen USA 2016. She is from Detroit and represented Heart of Michigan at the finals.  She won the title on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at McMorran Auditorium in downtown Port Huron. At the same event, Susan Leica won Miss Michigan USA 2016 title. She defeated 36 other contestants to clinch to the crown.  She is 16 and was crowned by Maria Elizabeth Rendina, Miss Michigan Teen USA 2015 from Monroe who was unplaced at Miss Teen USA 2015. Unjanee Wells will now represent the state of Michigan at Miss Teen USA 2016 where Katherine Haik will crown her successor.

Unjanee Wells can be the first Miss Michigan Teen USA to win Miss Teen USA.  The highest placement of the state at Miss Teen USA was achieved by Catherine Laurion Jelinek of West Branch who was 1st runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2005, which was won by Miss Ohio Teen USA 2005 Allie LaForce at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The second highest placements have been achieved by Alicia Jaros and Courtney Pizzimenti.  Alicia Jaros of Riverview was second runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2003 which was won by Miss Oregon Teen USA 2003 Tami Farrell at Palm Springs, California.  Courtney Pizzimenti of Oakland Township was second runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2012 which was won by Miss Connecticut Logan West at Nassau, Bahamas.  Sara Dusendang of Paris, Michigan was a Top 5 finalist at Miss Teen USA 1999, which was won by Miss Delaware Teen USA 1999 Ashley Coleman at Shreveport, Louisiana.  Tamika Thomas of Detroit was Top 10 finalist in Miss Teen USA 1996, which was won by Miss Texas Teen USA Christie Lee Woods at Las Cruces, New Mexico.  Raquel, McClendon, Kristen Danyal and Iris Robare were Top 15 finalists in Miss Teen USA editions of 2006, 2009 and 2014 respectively.  Thus, in terms of number of placements, Michigan is one of the least successful states at Miss Teen USA, having only placed eight times.
